The pattern here is visible on the flat-sawn side. Lute braces are generally flat-sawn, meaning the grain is visible when looking at the glued braces from the side. The pattern visible in this picture indicates that the planed surfaces cuts through several layers of years, which is not satisfactory. Material still needs to be taken away in the “upper right corner”.
