The angle of this lute neck made for an unusually high action. A recommended string action for lute is considered to be 2.8mm on the treble side, and 4.5mm on the bass side. The incoming condition of this lute was with a string action of 4.3mm on the treble side, and 5.5mm on the bass side; so quite dramatically higher than the norm. The pictures below show the process of adjusting the neck angle.
String action is measured at the 9th fret, and is the distance between the string underside and the fret top.
